Looking after your bike goes beyond just giving it a wash down after a ride. Regularly checking over your bicycle and showing it some love is super important for ensuring it’s safe for your next outing.

To start with, spray the entire bike with Weldtite Bike Cleaner, as this will cut through grease and dirt more easily. Remove the wheels and install a chain keeper, this will make accessing all parts of the bike a lot easier.

Make sure you separate your cloth and sponges too, keeping 'clean' sponges for the bike frame and 'dirty' sponges for greasy sections, such as the chain.

We have a work stand available which will save bending over and prevent the bicycle falling over, this is not essential.

STEP 1

Start by using Weldtite Citrus Degreaser on your chain, if you have a chain cleaning machine use that (you can do this while waiting for the Bike Cleaner to do it's work). Jet Blast degreaser spray will work just as well if you're in a hurry!

Turn the cranks backwards to work the Citrus Degreaser into the chain (this will take around 50 revolutions). You should also apply degreaser to the cassette sprockets and chainrings using the sprocket brush, finally apply to the derailleur and leave the degreaser to work for a few minutes.

STEP 2

Rinse the bike of cleaner and degreaser using a hose pipe or a bucket of clean water.

Using soapy water and a clean sponge, clean all areas of the bike starting from the saddle and bars and working downwards. The Weldtite cone and tapered brushes will help you reach those difficult areas of the bike.

Scrub the tyres, rims and spokes and rinse everything again with clean water.

STEP 3

Use the Weldtite microfibre cloth to ensure the bike is thoroughly dry. Spray the frame saddle and bars with our Silicone Protect & Polish using a clean cloth (avoid getting this on any braking surfaces).

STEP 4

Re apply your chosen Weldtite lubricant to the individual chain links. Work into every link by pedaling the bike backwards several revolutions. Be sure to wipe off any excess, this will prevent your chain from attracting dirt.

STEP 5

Apply Weldtite TF2 Teflon spray to derailleur pivots and cables etc. Re fit your wheels. Check each tyre for cuts and debris such as flint and glass and remove if necessary.

Remember while it may be the last thing on your mind after a thoroughly good ride, washing your bicycle is really important for making sure your bike is safe, ready for the next trip out, and of course, looking sparkly clean. With your bike clean, lubricated and tightened up to spec, you can have peace of mind that your faithful steed is ready to take on your next adventure.
