Pre-season safety check

Safety Check

Check the top pivot bolt and both jockey wheel bolts are tight. Change the cable if it is frayed, and spray TF2 into the outer cable.

Inspect the brake blocks for wear. See they line up with the wheel rim. Fit the brake blocks so that the front edge touches the rim first to avoid brake squeal. Check the pivot bolts are tight and spray lightly with TF2.

Test the bar end and lever mounting bolts for tightness. Lubricate all the pivots and inside the gear changers with TF2.

Be extra careful checking that the brake caliper and disc are both firmly bolted into place. Look for leaks and worn pads as well.

Cranks are held on with either ordinary bolts or socket head bolts. Both types should be done up as tightly as possible.

The bolts holding the handlebars, stem and saddle all screw into alloy, so they must be tight but use only medium force.

Check that the wheels are running freely by adjusting the cones.

For the correct tightnessof all bolts see the munfacturers recommendations and use the Cyclo Torque Wrench
